New Updates: Rodney Dickson

So it's been quite some time since you saw any truly new interviews from me. Well, I'm back at work on another interview, this time an update with Rodney Dickson. Rodney wanted to talk with me about the changes he has faced in the recent times and how they have affected his paintings.

We are working on adding more to the film, so it'll be a few days before it gets online.

Francine Tint Studio Interview

I was introduced to Francine around 2013 during my first visit with Sculptor/Painter Peter Reginato and Painter Dee Solin to the Hamptons to visit ArtMrkt Hamptons. Francine's work was in the same booth as Peter's and while I didn't get to meet her that weekend. I did soon after. We finally got to get together in September of this year and filmed for a couple hours. What you are about to see is a culmination of that day.

In April 2013 I got to film Art Guerra in his Bushwick Studio. I don't think you've ever seen an artists studio so crammed with paintings. Enjoy!

Michael Brennan Talks about painting while priming a canvas in Brooklyn,...

I don't share very many clips from Michael Brennan on here. I don't know why that is, being that I have had many many wonderful conversations about painting with him. He is a wealth of information about painting and paintings history, more in tuned with the contemporary history of painting, which is the type I am more interested in. I decided to share this section from our second interview as I felt it was germane to the situation here. Plus you get to see something you don't see very often with painters. How they prime their own canvases. This seemingly banal subject is one many of us take seriously and with pride.

Custom Audio Isolation

I felt it was finally time to get in some chopping time. I have been meaning to put some holes into my audio isolation rig, giving it easier access to the controls. I made it out of a 3 inch PVC coupling, using heavy duty rubber bands to isolate the Zoom H4n from vibrations. I cut two holes into the body of the PVC with my Craftsman Dremel-type tool, and my Fathers DeWalt drill. I originally began with drilling holes into the corners of what I thought was going to be an easy job...that didn't happen. So I broke back out the drill and drilled many pilot holes along the lines of the windows. Took over 30 minutes to cut the two holes into the PVC. Making sure to wear the proper protection all the while.

I connect the isolation contraption with a Sima Quick Connect, to my Samsung HD Camera.

Now I can much more easily check on my levels and hit those buttons without having to take the Zoom out of the suspension. I'm much happier about using this in the near future. Thanks to Scott Eggleston from the Frugal Filmmaker for giving me the idea that I can isolate my microphones without having to pay $100 for it.

My 1st Documentary (Marc Ross)

This is my first documentary I made. I did it with my new Canon 5D MKII camera with a Sigma 50mm prime lens and a Zoom H4n audio recorder. Edited with Final Cut Express 4.0 on my MBP. I had a fabulous time learning from Marc about his life coming into painting up to now. I also had a wonderful experience (sometimes quite hair pulling) learning how to edit the film.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
