Almost 1K in the first week.

Thanks to all the people who have donated for the film project so far. Got almost to $1000 right now. 44 more days to go to get to $15,000. So I am definitely in need of help from all my friends who wanna see this film get made. Many emails have been sent to news outlets through the last week and I'm ready to send out more. There is so much to do, and I'm hoping that with your help, and your friends help, and their friends...we'll all together be able to revel in the fact that you and yours helped bring this film to fruition.

We don't want these stories to go untold. History needs documentaries like this.

Camera Rig.

I welcome you to see the camera rig I have built with the help of the Frugal Filmmaker and his ingenious designs to help filmmakers save money. It's all built to be able to break down and be easier to carry. As I had to carry my first version all around New York when I was there in November 2011 shooting interviews for my documentary. This one is a bit more streamlined and easygoing. As you can see it has a place to rest your shoulder, along with the ability to use it as a shoulder rig, or you can break it down and use it more as a handheld rig. Everything you see that is in the last photo is all glued together with PVC glue and can easily be put together or taken apart for travel.

As you might know. I've been working on this film for over a year now. Most of it was time spent planning, getting in touch with people, learning about the equipment I had. Well recently I got to make my first big push to NYC to film a number of the participants in this film, and through a number of donations was able to do all of that. So I thank all of you who donated.

I know i'm not asking for much here. If you have $5.00 you'd like to help out with, or $500...either way it's an awesome gesture of support and enjoyment on my part. I'm going to be putting the project up on a website called Kickstarter soon to try to reach my full funding goal, but I'll always have the links to the right of the page on at all times.

In the meantime, or if you know you'd rather me get your donation right away, instead of waiting two months. Just click any of the donation boxes and your funds will be generously donated right to me and will only go for travel and film expenses.

I will have a trailer of the film online in a few weeks. I'm waiting till the Kickstarter project goes live to let everyone see it from there.

Wanted to share this wonderful video on a favorite painter of mine. And one hell of a nice guy, that loves loud music!

Stephen is one of the participants on my upcoming documentary, and I can't wait to get back to interview him. I know he has some amazing stories to tell, and i'm sure many will love watching.

Now if only I knew how to speak their language. I will say that I have always found arabic to be one of the most beautiful written languages.

Last night it came to me in a moment.

"Untitled: Stories of Painting 1970-2012"

Once I had thought about it. It all fell into place. A series of stories built on conversations is exactly what I wanted to accomplish with this film. I also would like to comment that I was originally thinking of using a different sate but Carl Belz suggested I stay with 1970, as this film does kinda pick up where the Emile De Antonio film left off.

I'm also now working on not only getting some of the new breed, but also working on making the film more complete by bringing in painters, writers, curators that don't focus on monochrome and minimal painting. I'm looking into getting a number of painters, curators, and writers who are more into the expressionist (neo and post-mod) styles of painting. And how it all ends up finding it's way back to the same artists from history. I want to show how even vastly different painters can have all the same hero's as they came up and how, even though they each have their own style. There's still the mark of history that binds them all together.

Herb and Dorothy Revisited

One of the very first people I asked to interview is the painter Joseph Marioni. I have been a friend of Joe's for almost a decade now, and find it to be one of my most treasured relationships I have. Even though I have spent so much time getting to know him. There's still many conversations about art that we haven't had. And I'm really looking forward to learning about them in our upcoming interview. I'm sure there are many of his fans who will be itching to see some video of Joe in his studio. Trust me, it's a wonderful place and always makes me wanna go home and work on my own paintings more.

Sharing a wonderful Gerherd Richter video

I just discovered this video last night and wanted to share it. It's from a documentary that Corinna Belz has made on Richter. I am really looking forward to the final film she has composed. We'll just have to wait and see. I love watching the clips from the film that is in the video. I love how there is no soundtrack to it...just the artist and his art, along with a few chats here and there.

Truly thought this is an incredibly interesting project. A homage to the great experimental composer Alvin Lucier. Who once did a project called "I am sitting in a room". If you don't know about the project, you can find out more here. This gentleman decided to make a video project based on Lucier's methods, just updated for todays technology. I recommend trying to view at least a few of the actual videos, as it's quite interesting how digital, what we once thought was always going to be a clean signal, DOES have much opportunity for craziness. Enjoy.

There is so much anticipation in looking forward to my interview with painter Max Cole. Just in the last couple months that I have gotten to know her over the phone, I can tell you she is a wonderful and very intellectual person whom is going to make for one fantastic interview. She sent me a set of books of her work so I would know more about her than one can learn on the internet. Included was a DVD from the Kunstgalerie Bonn where Stephen Zaima spent some time with her in 2007 speaking with her and watching her at work. This is a filmic representation of the first time Cole had let anyone watch her in the process of making a painting. I'm looking forward to sharing my representations of her, her past, her present, and her future, and her relations to her fellow modern painters.

One participant I have been very anxious to meet and am really looking forward to our first meetup is painter Robert Sagerman. Sagerman has truly found a new method of painting and I can't wait to see how he develops it over the next decade or so. It's one of the few types of painting where I can't decode just how he does it. And that makes me enjoy it even more. Learning about Robert, his history and how he sees the future is definitely worth the visit.

Carl is Director Emeritus of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. Was director from 1974 to 1998. He was my professor at UMass Amherst in the sixties. And a graduate of Princeton University with a BA, MFA and Phd. He was also one of the starting 5 of the All-Ivy Basketball Team. He curated the 1998 show of Joseph Marioni.

I went up to New Hampshire a few weeks ago and spent some wonderful time getting to know curator Carl Belz. Belz is the director emeritus of the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. He is also a contributor for the Left Bank Art Blog. Here is a small clip of Carl speaking about how he came to love art. I do hope you enjoy it. As there is MUCH more to come.

In the following weeks I'll be travelling around the country to interview many more painters, curators, writers, critics, and gallerists about the world of the modern painter and how they all relate to it.

My 1st Documentary (Marc Ross)

This is my first documentary I made. I did it with my new Canon 5D MKII camera with a Sigma 50mm prime lens and a Zoom H4n audio recorder. Edited with Final Cut Express 4.0 on my MBP. I had a fabulous time learning from Marc about his life coming into painting up to now. I also had a wonderful experience (sometimes quite hair pulling) learning how to edit the film.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
